Although birth rates are generally declining, the global population continues to rise gradually. The United Nations predicts that by 2050, the world population will reach 9 billion. A renowned American scholar warns: "This has already exceeded the Earth's capacity!"

The remarks were made by Nina Fedoroff, who served as the U.S. State Department's Science and Technology Advisor in 2007. In an interview with BBC's "One Planet" program, she stated that the current global population is already too large: "We must find ways to slow down the rate of global population growth. The Earth can no longer accommodate more people!"

Fedoroff also believes that genetically modified foods are a product of modern needs and should be considered as part of the solution. "The population is now approaching 7 billion. We will need more innovative solutions to address issues such as water and food supply," she emphasized, adding that the protection of wilderness and water supply are also urgent issues.

Regarding the topic of global warming, Fedoroff believes that the U.S. will inevitably take more concrete actions to reduce carbon emissions. When asked whether the U.S. would sign a carbon reduction agreement in the future, she clearly responded: "In the end, we will have to move in this direction. The sooner we act, the better."

China and India currently have the largest populations, with 1.3 billion and 1.1 billion people, respectively; the U.S. has 300 million, Indonesia 200 million, and Brazil 190 million.
