German researchers' experiments have found that drinking two glasses of apple juice daily can help the brain reduce the accumulation of beta-amyloid protein, which causes Alzheimer's disease (dementia) patients to gradually lose memory, thereby inhibiting forgetfulness.
The German weekly "Focus" website reported that researchers from the University of Massachusetts, Thomas and his research team, discovered in experiments that mice drinking apple juice showed a slow improvement in pathological amnesia. This effect became evident when the mice consumed an amount equivalent to two glasses a day for humans. The experiment found that after just one month, the accumulation of beta-amyloid protein in the mice's brains had decreased.
Thomas said: "This result is another proof of the link between diet and age-related neurodegenerative diseases. Clearly, a balanced diet not only supports the brain to function optimally but also delays the onset of Alzheimer's disease."
