Chinese authorities today stated that a batch of herbal medicine produced by the Wandashan Pharmaceutical Factory in Heilongjiang Province, northeast China, was "contaminated with bacteria," and is suspected to have caused the deaths of three people. The Chinese Ministry of Health and the State Food and Drug Administration stated in a declaration that the problematic "Ciwujia" injection, a traditional Chinese medicine injection made from Siberian ginseng, is under investigation to determine the cause of contamination.
