A new study from the Cleveland Clinic's Genomic Medicine Institute in the United States suggests that men who keep their phones in talk mode in their pants pockets may experience a decline in sperm quality due to the close proximity of the pocket to the testicles. Dr. Ashok Agarwal, the director of the center who led the study, stated that many men often place their phones in their pants pockets and use hands-free devices to make calls, which affects their testicles.

Dr. Agarwal's research team collected semen samples from 32 men and divided the semen, placed in conical tubes, into experimental and control groups. Both groups of semen were kept under the same temperature and conditions, but the control group was not exposed to mobile phone electromagnetic waves, while the experimental group was placed 2.5 centimeters away from a mobile phone emitting 850MHz frequency in talk mode for one hour.

The results showed that the semen cells in the experimental group exhibited oxidative stress, meaning there was a significant increase in free radicals and oxidants within the cells, and a decrease in antioxidants. Dr. Agarwal stated that this phenomenon could reduce sperm quality, including motility and survival rate.

Dr. Agarwal mentioned that the experimental group saw an average increase of 85% in free radicals, which are associated with various human diseases, including cancer. However, he acknowledged that the study has its limitations, including a small sample size and not considering the potential protective effects of human skin, bones, and tissues on the testicles.
