American scientists recently announced that they have developed a vaccine that can effectively prevent and treat shingles. This news has brought hope to many patients suffering from this disease.

According to a Xinhua News Agency report from Washington on July 10, after repeated trials, scientists have refined the chickenpox vaccine for use in treating shingles with promising results. Scientists are currently testing the concentrated chickenpox vaccine for the prevention and treatment of shingles. If this clinical trial is successful, the new shingles vaccine will be widely promoted across the United States next year.

Dr. Michael Oxman from the University of California, San Diego, stated that shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which can remain dormant in the human body for decades. When the conditions are right, the virus can reactivate, leading to shingles.

Shingles is a neurological disease characterized by the appearance of red patches on the skin and severe pain during the outbreak. Every year, more than one million people in the United States endure the pain caused by shingles. Although the rash caused by shingles can disappear within a short period after treatment, the pain can persist for months or even longer.
