There are countless methods for weight loss, but eating less and exercising more is the golden rule. However, no matter how much you cut back, breakfast should never be skipped. American researcher Daniela Jakubowicz says that eating a hearty breakfast can actually help with weight loss.

Professor Jakubowicz from Virginia Commonwealth University stated that participants who consumed a large breakfast, accounting for half of their daily caloric intake, for several months achieved better weight loss results compared to those who ate a smaller breakfast. She explained that eating too little in the morning can stimulate appetite.

Her designed "hearty breakfast" contains about 610 calories, significantly higher than the 395 calories for lunch and 235 calories for dinner. The meals were intentionally designed to reduce fat intake while increasing the proportion of carbohydrates (58 mg) and protein.

In contrast, the control group consumed about 1085 calories per day, with a focus on protein and fat. Their breakfast contained only 290 calories, making it the smallest meal of the day.

After 4 months, the low-carb, small breakfast group showed better weight loss results than the high-carb, large breakfast group, losing 28 pounds (about 14.2 kg) compared to 23 pounds (about 11.7 kg). However, after 8 months, the low-carb, small breakfast group experienced weight regain, gaining 18 pounds (9.1 kg), while the large breakfast group continued to lose weight, with an average loss of 16.5 pounds (8.4 kg) per person.

Overall, those who ate a hearty breakfast lost an average of 20% of their weight, while those who ate a small breakfast only lost an average of 5%.

Jakubowicz noted that intentionally reducing carbohydrate intake can yield short-term weight loss results, but low-carb diets can easily trigger appetite and slow metabolism, leading to weight regain in the long run.
