The road is as dangerous as a tiger’s mouth. In the early morning, a fatal accident occurred in Xizhi involving a heavy motorcycle. A pedestrian illegally crossed the median divider, and the heavy motorcycle, unable to brake in time, collided directly. The pedestrian died after being sent to the hospital, while the motorcyclist was injured, and the entire motorcycle was burned to ashes.
The heavy motorcycle lying on the ground had been reduced to a charred wreck, with only the rear license plate still visible, confirming it was indeed a heavy motorcycle. Parts and helmets were scattered everywhere. At the time of the accident, a 35-year-old man had illegally crossed the median divider. The heavy motorcycle, traveling at a speed exceeding
100 kilometers per hour , had no chance to stop and collided directly. The pedestrian died on the spot, and the motorcycle burst into flames.
The accident occurred around midnight on Xintaiwu Road in Xizhi, Taipei County. With few cars on the road at the time, two heavy motorcycles were cruising in tandem from Xizhi toward Keelung. Due to poor visibility and excessive speed, the pedestrian suddenly dashed out from the median. The motorcycle skidded, its fuel tank ruptured, and friction sparked a fire, instantly turning it into a fireball. The rider was severely injured, and the pedestrian died. Had the motorcycle been slower or the pedestrian taken a few more steps to use the crosswalk, this tragedy could have been avoided. (Reporters Li Mingwei and Yang Shunqin)
