To ensure public food safety and promote healthy and worry-free consumption, the Nantou County Health Bureau conducted random inspections of candied fruit products sold in supermarkets, stores, and tourist sales locations in April. A total of 18 products were tested for sweeteners and preservatives, with 3 found to be non-compliant.

The investigation revealed that the three non-compliant "candied fruit products" originated from manufacturers in Changhua County. The case has been transferred to the local health bureau for further action, and retailers have been instructed to immediately remove the non-compliant products from shelves.

The Health Bureau reminds the public that artificial sweeteners, including saccharin (300 times sweeter than sucrose), aspartame, and cyclamate (30 to 50 times sweeter than sugar), are commonly used in beverages, candies, and candied fruits. For better health, it is advisable to reduce excessive cravings for sweetness, consume natural sugars from whole foods, and limit processed foods. Those who regularly use artificial sweeteners or related products should read packaging labels to understand their safety. For any concerns regarding food safety or consumption, please contact the relevant authorities.
