Three individuals, aged only 15 and 17, with BMI values exceeding 30

Young people today love sugary drinks and fried foods, and some develop cholecystitis as early as their teens. Taipei City Hospital recently treated three teenage patients who suffered from gallstones combined with acute cholecystitis. Despite repeated treatments for abdominal pain, their conditions did not improve, ultimately requiring gallbladder removal, turning them into "teens without gallbladders." Doctors recommend drinking 1,500cc of water daily, increasing vegetable and fruit intake, and avoiding gallbladder removal at a young age to prevent gallstones.

Dr. Zhuang Zhenrong, director of general surgery at Taipei City Hospital Zhongxiao Branch, stated that gallbladder stones are a common digestive disorder in adults, particularly among those over 40. However, in recent years, due to the Westernization of diets and excessive consumption of high-fat foods, gallbladder stone patients have become increasingly younger. Clinically, aside from patients in their 20s and 30s, there have even been cases involving teenagers aged 15 and 17—"far too young to develop such conditions."

Zhuang Zhenrong noted that these three young patients shared common traits: they avoided water but loved sugary drinks, had BMI values exceeding 30 (indicating moderate obesity), and regularly consumed fried chicken and high-fat, high-calorie foods—factors believed to contribute to their gallstone formation. Since the patients developed acute cholecystitis due to gallstones and repeated medication failed to alleviate their abdominal pain, gallbladder removal became the only viable treatment.

Zhuang Zhenrong advised that drinking plain water is best, recommending 1,500cc daily and discouraging teenagers from consuming tea, coffee, or sugary beverages.

Dr. Wei Boli, director of general surgery at Taipei Medical University Hospital, explained that clinically, 20% to 30% of women over 40 develop gallstones due to hormonal changes during pregnancy, while 10% to 20% of men over 40 also suffer from the condition. Gallstones are categorized into calcified and cholesterol types, with cholesterol-type gallstones being more common clinically, often caused by excessive oil intake, insufficient water consumption, and skipping breakfast among young people.

Wei Boli further explained that overly greasy and high-calorie diets lead to metabolic substances entering the gallbladder, causing cholesterol buildup. Additionally, skipping breakfast results in bile stagnation, increasing the risk of stone formation. The gallbladder secretes bile to help the liver break down fats. Once the gallbladder is removed, a small number of people may experience poor fat absorption and difficulty digesting fats, leading to frequent bathroom visits after eating.Source: http:/ / tw. news. yahoo. com/ % E5……0% 91% E5% B9% B4- 070000726. html;_ylt=AjrW9XQhe6beCSO.MMItireYBdF_;_ylu=X3oDMTRrczZ2MnFqBGNjb2RlA2N0LmMEbWl0A01vc3QgUG9wdWxhciBFbnRlcnRhaW5tZW50IE5ld3MEcGtnAzlkYzBhMTJlLTNhMDktMzliOS04YzliLTA5MGM1MjQ4ZDI2NARwb3MDMwRzZWMDdG9wX3N0b3J5BHZlcgNkNTJiZGU1MC1hZDdmLTExZTItYmE3ZC00M2E2YmI5ODRhNDM-;_ylg=X3oDMTNiMWMxNXMyBGludGwDdHcEbGFuZwN6aC1oYW50LXR3BHBzdGFpZANlMzdjY2NjMC01N2JkLTNmYTQtYWMxZS1iYjYyNDg0MWRkNjgEcHN0Y2F0A.W9seWKh3zol53kurrli5XmhYsEcHQDc3RvcnlwYWdl;_ylv=3
