The day has finally arrived when gasoline in the United States costs four dollars per gallon. A recent poll shows that while Americans are worried about soaring oil prices, they are even more concerned about a return to the days of the 1970s oil crisis, when oil purchase restrictions led to long queues at gas stations.

A poll jointly released today by "CNN" and "Opinion Research" reveals that 40% of Americans are worried about the increasingly high oil prices, but 55% of respondents said they are more concerned about the return of days like those during the 1970s oil crisis, when restrictions allowed refueling only on certain days of the week, leading to long lines of cars at gas stations.

83% of respondents believe that the rise in oil prices to four dollars per gallon is a major problem or crisis.

This poll was conducted from June 4 to 5, interviewing a total of 1,035 adults, with a sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.

Another poll released earlier by CNN and "Opinion Research" shows that 66% of people said they have reduced driving in response to rising oil prices; 71% said they are considering buying more fuel-efficient cars; 55% said they have significantly cut back on other household expenses; and 78% believe that the current economic situation is "bad" or "very bad."
