Eating too much ginseng can lead to glaucoma! A nearly forty-year-old socialite often felt fatigued and dizzy, so she started eating a ginseng root daily to boost her health. Unexpectedly, she overdid it and ended up with glaucoma.

Ginseng is known for nourishing the body and boosting energy. This entrepreneur's wife consumed a ginseng root every day, and even brewed ginseng tea for an extra energy boost. However, her vision became increasingly blurry, almost to the point of blindness. A hospital check-up revealed that her intraocular pressure was too high, and she had developed glaucoma before the age of forty.

Through medical testing, it was found that the socialite's intraocular pressure was as high as 30 mmHg, exceeding the normal range of 10-20 mmHg. Combined with her blurred vision, doctors concluded that her high intraocular pressure had caused glaucoma. The condition could be cured by stopping the consumption of ginseng and other heat-inducing supplements.

However, a box of ginseng can cost several thousand dollars, with premium grades even reaching tens of thousands. Most people cannot afford to consume large quantities of ginseng, so there are almost no medical cases of glaucoma caused by ginseng consumption. Regardless of how beneficial supplements are, moderation is key to avoid over-supplementation, which can harm health.
