One in three children with pneumonia may be caused by mycoplasma. Originally, it could be cured with antibiotics, but a pair of siblings developed resistance. The mycoplasma was found to have mutated, and the younger sister had to be saved with ECMO.

Mycoplasma pneumonia nearly took the lives of a 7-year-old brother and his 6-year-old sister. The X-rays showed the brother's left lung was white, and the sister's condition was even more severe, with both lungs appearing white, requiring ECMO to sustain life. Mycoplasma pneumonia, which usually responds to medication, did not respond to multiple antibiotics in the case of these siblings. Tests revealed that the mycoplasma had mutated and developed resistance.

Mycoplasma infection resembles a cold, with symptoms like coughing and fever, and is transmitted through droplets. The mutation of mycoplasma is unheard of globally.

The development of drug resistance in mycoplasma increases the difficulty of treatment, largely due to the overuse of antibiotics. It is best for the public to follow doctors' instructions when taking medication.
