A study from the UK indicates that an ice shelf in Antarctica has disappeared, while another is rapidly shrinking, with glaciers melting at an accelerated rate—all consequences of global warming.
The British Antarctic research team reported that the Wordie Ice Shelf, which began disintegrating in the 1960s, has completely melted. The northern part of the Larsen Ice Shelf has also vanished. Measurements show that since 1986, the Larsen Ice Shelf has lost 8,300 square kilometers in area.
This once again reveals that the situation of global warming is far more severe than previously understood.
Over 90% of the world's glaciers are concentrated in Antarctica, making changes in its ice coverage particularly impactful on human living conditions.
