Mainland News Center / Guangdong Report

Mainland China's college entrance exam (Gaokao) results have been released! This year, Guangdong witnessed a child prodigy—11-year-old Gong Min, known as the "Little Prodigy of Foshan" and a student at Foshan Nanhai Middle School, scored nearly 60 points above the standard and was successfully admitted to Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong.

Sitting beside bespectacled college students in his school uniform, Gong Min’s every move exudes childishness, making it hard to imagine he’s about to start his freshman year. He said, "I’m naturally interested in learning, and I’m basically satisfied with my Gaokao results because I performed at my usual level, even slightly better."

However, the 11-year-old from Foshan, Guangdong, speaks with maturity beyond his years. Gifted with exceptional intelligence, he recognized over 3,400 Chinese characters by the age of two and a half. Never attending kindergarten, he completed elementary school by five, entered middle school at six, and was in high school by the time his peers were just starting elementary school at nine.

In March of this year, he took the Gaokao. While the minimum admission score was 585, he scored an impressive 639, earning him a place at the prestigious Sun Yat-sen University and the nickname "Little Prodigy." He said, "Because I’ve always been with classmates seven or eight years older than me, I’m quite used to it. Since we’re in the same grade, we naturally have common topics to discuss."

Gong Min isn’t worried about interacting with his older classmates. His endless curiosity for new things fuels his learning at just 11 years old. A lover of chocolate, he’s ready to take on the challenges of advanced coursework. (News source: ETtoday reporters Xue Yushen and Cai Xinzhang)
