A Danish study found that girls are entering puberty a year earlier than they did two decades ago. Many girls now begin developing as early as age ten.

Dr. Juul Anders from Copenhagen University Hospital said they studied 1,000 elementary school girls. The results showed that these children's breasts began developing at an average age of nine years and ten months, a year earlier than twenty years ago. In the 19th century, Danish girls did not enter puberty until they were fifteen.

Dr. Juul Anders warned that early puberty has negative effects on both the psychological and physical health of girls. He said early development means they are exposed to estrogen sooner, increasing the risk of breast cancer and heart disease. They also have to face the challenges of puberty around the age of ten.

The exact reason for earlier development is still unclear, but scientists generally believe that early maturation is linked to changes in dietary habits, lack of exercise, or exposure to environmental chemical pollutants.
