To make shark fins appear flawless, unscrupulous factories in Guangdong use industrial hydrogen peroxide for cleaning. Workers admitted that hydrogen peroxide is toxic, but "it's for the rich anyway," and if anything happens, they have money for medical treatment. It is reported that these shark fins are sold to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and other places.

Guangdong Foshan Television exposed an underground shark fin factory in Nanhai Guanyao Town, where the environment was extremely filthy. Over a dozen workers, without standard uniforms, hats, or even gloves, crowded around a large square pool scrubbing shark fins. A reporter asked, "Is this the shark fin we usually eat?" A worker replied, "Yes!" The reporter remarked, "It's very dirty!" The worker said, "Yes, it hasn’t been processed yet!"

Later, workers were seen dumping baskets of freshly scrubbed shark fins into a barrel. Upon closer inspection, the water in the barrel was white with small bubbles on the surface and had a pungent smell. It turned out to be industrial hydrogen peroxide. Workers revealed that sometimes ammonia water is mixed in as well. The shark fins are soaked overnight, then taken outside to dry without further washing before being processed and sold.

But isn’t hydrogen peroxide toxic? The workers openly admitted, "Of course it’s toxic, but there’s no other way. It’s for the rich anyway." If anything happens, they can afford medical treatment. According to the report, these shark fins are sold to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and other regions. Experts warn that food processed with industrial hydrogen peroxide can cause cancer and is corrosive, damaging the digestive system upon ingestion. Long-term consumption may even be life-threatening.
