Eating the right foods can help improve your mood! Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania observed 131 women who were eager to change their eating habits. These college students were particularly concerned about their body shape and appearance and used portable computers to record their moods and dietary intake in real time. The results showed that people who were already in a bad mood felt worse after eating junk food, while those with stable moods did not experience a decline after consuming junk food.

Researcher Hollo stated, "After eating junk food, pre-existing negative emotions only become more pronounced." She also believes that this research could provide better treatment for women with dietary issues.

Junk food is not only bad for the body, but the academic community has also increasingly pointed out its negative impact on emotions. Earlier, the British Dietetic Association noted that sugary foods can lead to feelings of depression because the body is accustomed to gradually obtaining energy from blood sugar. A sudden intake of excessive sugar can more easily trigger mood swings.

Last year, the journal *Public Health Nutrition* reported that about 51% of people who eat junk food are prone to depressive moods. In the experiment, participants who consumed more junk food were more likely to experience depressive emotions.

Eating high-fat and high-sugar foods increases dopamine secretion, making people feel happy. As a result, the academic community also believes that high-fat foods can be as addictive as drugs.

Additionally, researchers at the University of Montreal conducted experiments on mice and found that stress drives mice to seek out food, but ultimately worsens their mood.

The findings of this study were presented at the American Psychosomatic Society conference in March of this year.
