While Taiwan is experiencing floods, Australia is facing a drought, with up to 1 million people potentially facing water shortages.

Australia is experiencing a once-in-a-century drought, with some areas suffering from continuous drought for over seven years, forcing major cities to implement water restrictions.

Australia's Climate Minister (Penny Wong) told Channel Nine: The situation in the Darling River Basin, a major grain-producing area, is dire. Water levels have been consistently low, and the weather in June was extremely dry. Our focus must absolutely be on human needs, specifically the more than one million people who rely on the basin for drinking water.

Reports from Australian officials indicate that if the water levels in the Darling River decrease and the loss is greater than expected, further emergency measures may need to be implemented to ensure the needs of the population.

Another report submitted by Australia's top scientists this month points out that global warming will increase the likelihood of heatwaves in Australia by tenfold. Years of unusually high temperatures, which previously occurred once every 22 years, will now occur every one to two years, making drought a permanent feature of Australia.
