Wu Huifen/Taipei Report

Does drinking cold beverages after meals cause intestinal cancer? Does drinking milk tea lead to kidney stones? Such erroneous online information often causes public panic, and some even purchase weight loss or medicinal drugs online, only to collapse on the streets and nearly lose their lives.

A pair of Chen sisters in their early twenties, both weighing over 70 kilograms, bought weight-loss Chinese medicine online. Shortly after taking it, the younger sister fainted in the bathroom due to heart palpitations and was only saved after emergency medical treatment.

Zhu Nianfeng stated that online weight-loss drugs typically contain ingredients like thyroid hormone and ephedrine, which accelerate the user's metabolism to achieve weight loss. However, these drugs can cause side effects such as rapid heartbeat and dizziness, and may even lead to sudden death.

Zhu Nianfeng said that many diseases require long-term "battles" and cannot be cured overnight. For example, cases of people with hypertension, diabetes, or chronic hepatitis taking weight-loss drugs and collapsing from heart palpitations, or a hypertensive patient who bought herbal juice online, causing their blood pressure to spike over 200, leading to a cerebral hemorrhage and leaving them with mobility issues.

Zhu Nianfeng mentioned that information circulating online is not necessarily accurate. Drinking cold beverages after meals might at most cause gastrointestinal discomfort, but the internet firmly claims it leads to intestinal cancer, causing unnecessary panic.

Zhu Nianfeng emphasized that online information should only be used as a reference. Medication and prescriptions should still be handled by professional doctors to avoid consuming harmful drugs that could damage both body and mind.
