Meteorological experts said today that Melbourne, Australia, endured its hottest night since 1902, with temperatures reaching 34 degrees Celsius.

Melbourne, Australia's second-largest city, saw millions of people tossing and turning in the sweltering heat, unable to sleep. Power outages in some areas made the high temperatures even more unbearable, prompting some residents to head to the beach for relief.

Andrew Jefferson remarked, "This might be the most uncomfortable night I've ever experienced in Australia." Jefferson moved from the UK in 2001 to Ballarat, a tourist city west of Melbourne.

Power company equipment failed under the extreme heat, leaving thousands of households without electricity. Additionally, hundreds of trains were canceled in Melbourne yesterday, frustrating commuters.

Earlier this month, meteorological experts noted that the past decade has seen record-high temperatures in Australia.
