The Tainan City Health Bureau investigated the illegal addition of industrial dyes to bean curd and found that "Qianxin Industrial Co." had sold over 20,000 kilograms of emulsifiers since July this year. The products were distributed to 11 manufacturers in Yilan, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Keelung, and Pingtung. The Tainan City Health Bureau launched inspections last Thursday, with test results released on Friday, prompting immediate notifications to health authorities in various counties and cities to initiate product recalls. Regarding the detection of the banned dye dimethyl yellow in Dechang bean curd by Hong Kong authorities, the source was traced to emulsifiers for bean products manufactured and sold by "Qianxin Industrial Co." in Tainan. The Tainan City Health Bureau tested all additives used in the production process and finished products. The company stated that it purchased "oil yellow powder" from Rongmei Co., Ltd. in the West Central District of Tainan, which was later confirmed through inspections to be an industrial dye. The health bureau subsequently referred the case to the Tainan District Prosecutors Office and the Changhua District Prosecutors Office, which oversees Dechang bean curd factory, for further investigation. It also requested health bureaus across all counties and cities to immediately recall affected products.
Health Bureau spokesperson Lin Bifen stated that tests conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on "Qianxin Bean Product Emulsifier" also showed positive results for dimethyl yellow. Since this dye is prohibited in food, all manufacturers using it must recall their products. Investigations revealed that Qianxin's emulsifiers were sold to 11 downstream manufacturers across Taiwan, including "Wanxin," "Zhengxin," "Guozhe," and "Fangda" in New Taipei; "Hecheng Hang" in Yilan; "Lin Sanqi" and "Weishun Hang" in Taoyuan; "Hongqi" and "Songshun" in Taichung; "Guoquan Hang" in Keelung; and "Chen Wanwei" in Pingtung. Among them, the distributor "Songshun" supplied oil skins via Jiuyuan Enterprise to "Dechang," "Deyi Zhonghua," "Tianyi," and "Yuxiang Food."
It is understood that "Qianxin" was officially established in July this year and has since sold 25,760 kilograms of its products.
