Sleeping too little can make you fat! According to a Swedish study, women who sleep too little are more prone to obesity around the abdomen and waist. Additionally, those who lack deep sleep or dream too little are also more likely to gain weight.

As reported by Xinhua News, Uppsala University in Sweden recently published a research study involving over 400 women over a two-year period. Researchers used specialized instruments to record the different sleep stages and durations of these women daily while also conducting regular physical examinations, including waist circumference measurements.

The study found that those who slept fewer than five hours a day had an average waist circumference 9 centimeters larger than those who slept eight hours.

Why does sleeping too little lead to weight gain? Researcher Torbjörn Åkerstedt pointed out that insufficient sleep, lack of dreams, and insufficient deep sleep can all affect the secretion of cortisol (a stress hormone) and growth hormones in women, leading to weight gain and abdominal obesity.

This study aligns with previous Swedish reports, indicating that widespread sleep deprivation is a major contributing factor to the increasing obesity rates among Swedish women. (http://newtalk. tw/ )
